Mixed Lighting:
Critique:
In this photo, I used a mixed lighting technique to get a cool background and a warm subject. I would've liked to have a more blue background so I would've taken the shot on a day it wasn't so bright outside. The subject is in the middle of the image, but the curtain and the lines in the window makes it work. My photo has a feeling of embarrassment or bashfulness because you can't see the subjects eyes and they are turned to the side. I think this photo isn't my best photo, but it was good practice to understand how mixed lighting works and how to execute it.

Flash Lighting:
Critique:
In this photo, I used flash photography to take a picture of hands readjusting a painting. The hands are cut off at the bottom of the image which gives it an uncomfortable feeling. The hands are also in an uncomfortable, unnatural position. The colors work well together because there's a mixture of heavy and light warm tones and then there are lighter cool tones in the painting. The message I'm trying to convey in this image is my hatred for my bedroom because it has pink walls that I can not paint over. Because I hate them so much, I cover up the walls in art and tapestries. I really like this image and I think it works well for the intended message.

Spotlight:
Critique:
In this photo, I used the spotlight lighting technique. The spot is dramatic and makes an obvious subject. I like the photo on the left because the leg of the subject almost looks detached or like it's someone else's leg. The lines in the tile behind the subject lead the eye toward the subject and the "detached" leg. The photo on the right is over exposed and gives it a crazed feeling. The subject has mascara running down their face and is holding an empty wine bottle. The message I'm trying to convey is a low point in life, where all you want to do is lay in your bathtub, cry, and alter your reality (most commonly with the help of alcohol).

Advanced Lighting:
Critique:
This advanced lighting assignment was difficult in that I had to take the photo at the just right time of night that there is still light in the sky, but the lights turned on inside were also visible. The sources of light in these photos are the sky, the outside light, the phone screen, and the inside lights. I like the photo on the left because the light from the phone isn't as harsh, but I like the photo on the right because you can see the table and the centerpiece better. I think the photo is a little busy, but that was intentional.

The Earth Is Sick Series:
Negative Space Series: "My home; Inside and Out"
Environmental Portrait:
Critique:
My photos use line and balance. My original idea was to be surrounded by green house plants, but I don't have enough house plants to give it a full look so I resorted to using one plant and having it closer to the camera. In the first photo, my red glasses contrast with the green plant and bring out the red pot. I like these photos because they feel mysterious, but if I could take these photos again, I would try my original idea.

My Garden:
Critique:
I took close up photos of plants in my garden. There is a mixture of flowers and leaves and there are a few photos of produce. My favorites are the top 4 rows because they seem more cohesive and have a similar tone. These photos serve the purpose of capturing the beauty in my garden and serve as practice for marketing my idea of an ideal environment. My photos primarily focus on line, color, and texture. The 6th photo is of a plant called lamb's ears. It is called lamb's ears because the leaves literally have fur on them. It is one of the softest plants that exist and I wanted to capture that in my photo. Overall, I think my photos were a success and I would love to take more photos like them in the future.

My Garden pt.2:
Critique:
This series is a second part to the series above. In these photos I used line and color. This series is a perspective of seeing my garden. In the top right and bottom left photos, you can see my mom's hands gardening. If I could do this series again, I would do it at a time when we had a lot of produce to harvest. I would also find more colors that would make the series look more cohesive.

Final: BELONGING
In this series, the theme is things in places they don't belong. Throughout high school, students struggle with finding who they are and where they belong and I wanted to convey that message on a more physical and visual way. In each of these photos, there is one item that doesn't really belong. In the images, there is a sweet potato among spices, a water bottle among cleaning solutions, a toothbrush among paintbrushes, a plant among refrigerated food, a pill bottle among teas, and an old prom dress among casual clothing. At first glance, it isn't completely obvious that there is something out of place. I used color and line in these photos. If I were to do this series again, I would make the photos on a bigger scale so it's even harder to see the imperfection.
